Abstract
High-energy electron-beam irradiation is an effective method for modifying polymer properties, particularly through radiation-induced crosslinking. In this study, a Geant4-based dosimetric model was developed for a 10 MeV Rhodotron electron-beam system and applied to a polyethylene drip-irrigation pipe. The radiation field of the Yazd 200TT Rhodotron was first modeled using MCNP 2.7e and then reproduced in Geant4 11.2.2. The Geant4 framework was independently verified using a 60Co reference source by comparing the simulated and theoretical dose rates at 1 m. The model was subsequently applied to a polyethylene pipe with an outer diameter of 16 mm, a wall thickness of 1.4 mm, and a length of 116 cm at horn-to-pipe distances of 10, 20, 30, and 40 cm. Dose was scored at four circumferential positions and 116 longitudinal segments with 1-cm spatial resolution. After applying a 6.66% correction factor, the single-pass dose coefficients were 76.769675, 74.5640875, 71.074340, and 67.494315 kGy·min⁻¹·mA⁻¹respectively. For a target dose of 150 kGy, selected from published LDPE irradiation results [5], the predicted conveyor speeds at 10 mA were 5.93685, 5.76629, 5.49642, and 5.21956 m/min. The results demonstrate the capability of Geant4 to characterize dose distributions and estimate practical processing conditions for polyethylene pipe irradiation.
